We are the Beta Beta Houston Chapter #648; Region 6 of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Texas Woman's University (TWU), College of Nursing began in the fall of 1954, received accreditation from the National League of Nursing in May 1958. Beta Beta Chapter was officially recognized as a chapter, by TWU, in October 1969. Our inaugural inductions were held the spring of 1970. The mission of our organization is to support the learning knowledge, and professional development of nurses committed to making a difference in health worldwide. The society vision is to create a global community of nurses who lead in using knowledge, scholarship, service and learning to improve the health of the world’s people.
On Monday, February 22, 2010, we hosted our Induction Tea. It was well attended and we had over 74 invited eligible candidates.

On Friday, March 5, 2010, the Parry Distinguished Lectureship series was proud to host Dr Geraldine "Polly" Bednash, PhD, RN, FAAN, who has been the Executive Director of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.(AACN) since 1989. Dr. Bednash, a distinguished alumnus of TWU, discussed health care reform and its impact on nursing education, practice, and research.
Many PhD students, faculty, and recent graduates attended the event and presented posters.
The scientific poster award went to Dr Cheryl Rodgers for her poster entitled "The Meaning of Adolescent's Eating Experiences During Bone Marrow Transplant Recovery." Co-Authors for this poster were Dr. Anne Young, Dr Marilyn Hockenberry, Dr Brenda Binder, and Dr Lene Symes.
The "people's choice" award went to Dr Cheryl Lindy and Florence Schaefer for their poster entitled "Negative Workplace Behavior: More Common Than You Think."
